John 14:6, Acts 4:12 displayed in the Old Testament
Numbers 16-17 speak of a
rebellion of some 250 prominent Israelites against God's chosen, Moses and
Aaron. The people, led by Korah and a few others, brought charges against them
both claiming that they had no right to claim leadership over the people, much
less call into question the people's holiness and status before God. "God
is among us too!" they argued. In the event, they were claiming they could
approach God however they wanted and that the mediator provided to them, Aaron the priest, was unnecessary. Essentially, they
rose up against God's chosen mediator in attempt to approach God their own way.
The result: nearly 15,000 people died in judgment.
The result: nearly 15,000 people died in judgment.
Later, to further prove that God had chosen Aaron, 12 staffs representing the 12 tribes of Israel were gathered, the names of each leader were written on each staff, and the one that sprouted buds would be shown by God to be His anointed over the people.
Aaron's staff was the only one that budded: life from death was pictured only through Aaron's staff. He was the chosen mediator.
Moral of the story? God provided
only one "anointed" one (aka messiah) among them - Aaron the high
priest. There was no other option or way to God.
Jesus is the only
"Anointed one," the only Messiah, the only Great High Priest provided
by God we must come through in order to approach God and be reconciled to Him.
There is no other way, religious figure, or system.
